Fortress Marine Anchors Are The Smarter Choice For Commercial Use

 In News

Ground tackle aboard traditional workboat and commercial fishing vessels typically relies on sheer dead mass for much of its effectiveness. Fortress Marine Anchors are the surprisingly lightweight, modern-day alternative. Recent renewals of its stringent ABS and DNV-GL certifications prove they’re made for real-world anchoring conditions.

High-performance Fortress anchors have been ABS certified since the early 1990s. Its four larger models—FX-37, 55, 85 and 125—are all classified by DNV-GL as “Super High Holding Power” anchors. They’re manufactured in the USA from a precision-machined, rust-proof aluminum magnesium alloy. Highly durable, they have no welds to fail; all the parts interlock.

The sharpened flukes of a Fortress anchor are fast setting, and can be adjusted to 32° or 45° to optimize effectiveness, whether the bottom conditions are hard sand or soft mud. US Navy testing proved they out-held heavier Danforth and traditional Navy anchors by a significant margin. They hold so well, the FX-125 model was chosen as the primary anchor for the US Coast Guard’s 353 ton, 154′ Sentinel-class cutters.

As rugged as they are, Fortress anchors are exceptionally light. The FX-125, for example, weighs a mere 69 lbs., replacing a 170 lb. steel fluke anchor. This is an important factor when designing a vessel for speed, fuel economy, stability and ease of handling. In fact, accompanying equipment—rode, windlass, rollers—can be sized for the specific anchor, further reducing weight and expense.

Fortress Marine Anchors offers eight models covering vessels up to 150′ and range in price from $100 to $1,500. They come with lifetime parts replacement warranty.
