WHY 8-STRAND NYLON?
Nylon has long been an excellent material for anchor rodes because of its strength, flexibility, and ability to absorb shock loads created by wind, waves, and vessel movement.
The 8-strand construction also provides excellent flexibility and handling, making it well suited for windlass applications while allowing the rode to stow efficiently in the anchor locker.
WHY ACCO HIGH-TEST GALVANIZED CHAIN?
The chain section of an anchor rode provides weight, abrasion resistance, and durability at the anchor end of the system.
Fortress Windlass Rope & Chain Kits use ACCO galvanized high-test windlass chain, providing excellent strength and the dimensional consistency necessary for use with appropriately matched windlass systems.
BEFORE ORDERING: CHECK YOUR WINDLASS
Windlass compatibility is determined by the rope and chain sizes accepted by your windlass gypsy or wildcat—not by the anchor alone.
Before ordering, confirm that the rope diameter and chain size listed for your selected Fortress or Guardian anchor are compatible with your windlass manufacturer’s specifications.

Can I use these kits without a windlass?
Yes, but these kits are specifically configured using 8-strand nylon and windlass chain for customers operating a windlass. If you do not use a windlass, see our Fortress Standard Rope & Chain Kits.
Does the kit include the anchor?
No. The anchor is sold separately. Your anchor selection is used to determine the appropriate rope and chain configuration for your rode.
Is the rope already spliced to the chain?
Yes. Each kit arrives with the nylon rope professionally spliced to the chain, providing a complete anchor rode ready for installation.
Will this rode work with my windlass?
Windlass compatibility depends on the rope diameter and chain size specified by your windlass manufacturer. Always confirm the listed rope and chain dimensions against your windlass specifications before ordering.
Why does the rode configuration change with anchor size?
Larger anchors are generally used aboard larger vessels and require correspondingly sized anchoring components. Selecting your Fortress or Guardian anchor allows us to provide the rope and chain combination matched to that anchor.
